Favorite Day…Now and Then
What’s your favorite day of the week? What does it mean to you? This morning during my beach walk I thought about how that answer has changed with every stage of my life.
I counted the days down to Friday each week as a child. Eagerly waiting for late night movie marathons, pizza and sleepovers with no school the following day.
It didn’t take me long at USC to discover that Thursday was my favorite day. Specifically Thursday nights thanks to the non-stop dancing and shenanigans on “The Row”, the street with all the sorority and fraternity houses.
After college my Thursday night traditions had to end because the early morning wake-up for work on Friday. My twenties meant Saturday was the day for fun. Bubbly brunches, shopping and late night chat sessions with my friends rejuvenated me after a long work week.
Saturday continues to be my favorite day but recently Sunday morning is a close second. I often write about making yourself a priority to refresh and recharge. For me, that can often times be an hour long beach walk. Taking pauses to be still, present and at peace. Today my beach time included a stroll down the Seal Beach Pier to catch a glimpse of all the surfers.
I’ve added a new part to this routine, freshly brewed coffee. It’s the perfect way to wrap up my solo time and kick start me for the family day. For those with little ones, you know sometimes you have to gear up for the full day ahead.
Found the perfect place to sit and enjoy my coffee after a long beach walk.
During my beach walk this morning it was so nice to stroll down memory lane remembering my favorite day for each life chapter. Sunday fun day has a whole new meaning as a parent. Sometimes it means a solo early morning beach walk, others a family hike or backyard playtime with my sassy toddler. Or like today, it has included all of these things. Sunday fun day has evolved into a rich day of joy and inner calm.
As I wrap up this post I’m finding myself excited for Sunday nights. A dreaded time not too long ago because it meant the weekend was quickly ending and work would soon be on the horizon. Right now, I’m stoked for Sunday night because it means family feast time. Comfort food, chat and play time that always soothes my soul.
I hope your Sunday fun day is all that you want it to be.
