Art & Culture Unite in Laguna Beach
Disclosure: I received complimentary tickets for this post but opinions expressed are 100% mine.
Sawdust replaces sand for me a few summer days each year when I visit this beautiful showcase of art and talent. Celebrating their 50th Anniversary, the Sawdust Art & Craft Festival is a must visit for art lovers and free spirits alike. Join me on a tour of this unique artist community who devote their summer to bringing their craft to Laguna Beach.
I was 8 years old on my first visit to the Sawdust Art & Craft Festival and have only missed a handful of summer visits during the past thirty years. It’s a longstanding family tradition that will soon be shared with my daughter. If I had one word to describe my experiences at Sawdust, it’s magical. This is not your traditional art and craft festival. Each artist booth displays handmade items that tell a story.
I was not born with the gift of artistic talent so I absolutely admire those who create true beauty with their hands. Walking the sawdust covered floors to tour the artist booths you cannot help to be inspired and in pure awe of the creative geniuses.
Even as an eight-year-old child, I was mesmerized by the live demonstrations of hand-blown glass, ceramics and watercolor painting. To see masterpieces created right before your eyes is pure magic.
For the Kids
I have the best childhood memories with my best friend taking over the children’s art studio to make everything from paper mache treasures to colorful bead trinkets.
Set your budding artists free in the Children’s Art Spot where most of the classes are free (materials fee required for some sessions). Read more about festival classes and happenings in the Children’s Art Spot.
The Shopping Experience
The Sawdust Festival has become my one-stop place for unique gifts for family and friends. Of course I always get a little something for myself too! Handmade items include everything from jewelry, paintings, photography, mixed media, ceramics, glass work, clothing and more.
