Beat winter blues with your summer vibes
It has been pretty impossible to figure out the winter weather in Southern California this year. One weekend it’s perfectly acceptable to wear flip flops and hit the water and the next it’s time to dig out your winter jacket. If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, you know I would be perfectly fine if we had summer year-round here but I will learn to embrace a change in the seasons (Cali style that is).
Full disclosure, I am not a fan of boots, scarfs, sweaters and all those warm and fuzzy pieces. No matter how cute the winter wardrobe, I am not excited. I countdown the days to flip flops and bikinis. While my summer wardrobe sits still for awhile I’ve come up with a few ways to keep my summer self going despite the chilly air.
It is possible to tap into your summer spirit year-round. My method for staying cool, calm and semi-collected in fall and winter frenzy includes adding these touches to your winter days.
Display pieces of summer in your home
Don’t pack away the beach scented candles and sea shells. Keep some out as reminders of your carefree summer days. Smell the salt air candles alongside the snowflake figurines. There’s no rules against transforming your home into a winter wonderland complete with sandy shell filled hurricane vases. One of my favorite projects was creating beach shadow boxes.
Snuggle up with your turkish towel, yes that beach beauty can function as a great sofa throw. I keep my towel out all year because the color livens up the living room and just screams sandy beaches to me.
Pick your favorite summer photos, print them and enjoy as a reminder of summer fun and lazy endless nights.
Plan your next summer vacation to beat those winter blues. Research spring break vacations by the pool, tropical adventures on sun-drenched sands. Vacation planning may also help you focus on beating those financial blues to get you on the way to financial freedom.
