Kid-friendly hiking and salt water trails
Los Angeles residents may have to endure gridlocked freeways and streets but we are rewarded with so many endless summer days. Why not take advantage of all the sun and grab your family for an oceanfront walk in Palos Verdes? This luxurious beach city offers kid-friendly hiking trails for all ages and abilities including our family favorite bluff trailhead to Point Vicente Lighthouse.
My family and I have spent many Saturday mornings walking the coastline from Terranea Resort to Point Vicente Lighthouse and along the way have spotted whales, birds and butterflies. What’s not to love?
Another reason we love the kid-friendly hiking trails along this postcard ready coast, many are stroller accessible. I’m embarrassed to admit we have started many hikes with the trusty BOB Stroller only to find out at the halfway point we’ve reached the end of our journey. Too many hikes have ended early due to rocky, narrow and windy trials that don’t welcome our BOB. Sure we could’ve powered on but carrying a toddler wasn’t on our agenda. I wish we had purchased a child carrier for our hikes but we started researching them when our little one was already near the weight capacity for most affordable options.
Trust me on this, you’ll want to make a day of it and start and end your walk at Terranea Resort. Convenient parking options available just steps from several walking trails. The seaside resort is a nature lover’s paradise with tide pools and caves, discovery trails and more. Once you’re done exploring, the family can dine on pancakes while listening to the waves. Or if you’d like a grab and go option, Sea Beans offers pastries and coffee.
This is definitely not a sales pitch, so if Terranea is not your thing skip the resort part of the day and simply park near the lighthouse or at one of the many other trail options in Palos Verdes. I’d love to hear your experiences hiking with your little ones along the California coast or your community.
That looks like it would be a wonderful vacation for my family. We love to hike too.
It would make for a beautiful family getaway. Once in the area there’s so much to do and see. Let me know if you end up making a trip out here!
I would love to hike this area. It is so beautiful
It really is so pretty walking along the cliffs above the water. Surprisingly it’s never very crowded so you feel like you’ve been on a mini retreat.
How beautiful. It’s been awhile since I have been there, but I love this whole area.
It’s one of my fave places because it’s never very crowded. It’s really a hidden gem just outside of LA.
I love tidepools so much! I think I’d enjoy visiting even without kids!
Me too! In fact I’ve been known to enjoy a few solo visits myself to wander around and look for shells. It’s so relaxing and peaceful.
