Take a time out from constant noise
Hello all! It has been so long since I sat down to write because simply I couldn’t calm the constant noise to hear my own thoughts. Each day from sunrise to sunset my world was cluttered and frenzied. It has been a year of finding out what I want to do with my free time, yes even parents can and should have free time. The months of silence has shown me what I like, what I miss and well here I am. Back to blogging and back to me. Hopefully today I can help you silence the noise to discover your passions.
Your inbox and social media feeds are probably exploding with the ways to make 2018 the best year yet. Slim down, organize your to do list, your life and find all the missing pieces to satisfy your soul. My gut feeling is you already know all the answers, it all begins and ends with you. You can control the constant noise and focus on what feeds your mind, body and soul.
This may be a totally radical approach but to me it seems pretty simple. To find what makes you tick, you stop the clock. Take a break from all the clutter and slowly take back your time and energy. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t turn into a hermit this year, I just shifted my focus. I removed all add-on, optional items from my day and devoted that extra time into what makes me smile. Quality time with people I wanted to be with (not out of obligation) and lots of yoga.
Writing has always been a love of mine but the blogging world was starting to feel like work and with some cool sponsorship opportunities came a lot of obligations. Staring at a computer during the day for my full-time job, then staring at a screen at night for blogging was just too much. Hence the need to reduce the constant noise. Blogging went on hold and for once as a I parent, I felt no guilt. I just let it go, no explanation needed. I realized if I could do that with blogging, maybe I could do it with other things.
So started my noise reducing year…it has been amazing. It is so important to take the time out for yourself. Please quiet things around you and tap into what you really like and you’ll see what you miss. Bring those items back into the fold with a fresh look. You also may spark a new passion with the space you create by removing the constant noise.
Happy 2018, may it bring you calm and quiet to rediscover yourself!
Thank you Liz for your post on Discover Your Passions. It truly speaks volumes. I’m trying to make 2018 the best ME year by quieting the noise also and finding my best self. I’ve been struggling finding what it encompasses because I’ve always put my loved ones ahead of myself all my life.
Any suggestions where to start after you “quiet the noise”?
The simple fact you know you want to make this the year of YOU is huge! That is awesome and the best way to jump into the year. Carve out space for just you. Literally pencil in the time each day that is for you and you alone. And don’t alter that time frame. I have found such peace and joy in just a few minutes of yoga and/or meditation each day. I will feel completely drained but the minute I hit the mat, I’m reminded by a burst of energy that I am important. As women and moms we often give to everyone else and neglect ourselves. Give yourself permission to do what you love each day. Start small but make it a priority!
