I can easily get sucked down the Instagram rabbit hole when it involves interior decorating especially Christmas decor. Add in the cheesy Hallmark movies and I want to turn my beach home into the next winter wonderland with green velvet, plaids and tons of plush blankets. Then reality hits, I am a SoCal girl who dislikes socks, jackets and all winter gear. To breathe, I need to stay surrounded by my ocean waves, sea color palette and light breathable decor. So how do I bring all things Christmas into my beachy home for the holidays?
I incorporate the power of scent into my home during the Christmas season. It could be 75 degrees outside but when you walk into my home and smell Christmas, that combination of cinnamon, spices and gingerbread, it “feels” like Christmas.
About 4 years ago, I started researching healthy lifestyles and was shocked to learn how toxic my favorite candles and air plugins are, so much so that I tossed them all out. You can learn more about what’s really in so many of air fresheners, https://www.nrdc.org/sites/default/files/fairfresheners.pdf. I was shocked at what I was breathing in my home for years. I had stockpiled so many candles and fresheners, especially those yummy holiday scents. Once I started researching, I couldn’t deny what I was learning. And the shift happened to natural options.
Thankfully I had started using essential oils and discovered Young Living’s Christmas Spirit blend. Holy cow! It is pure holiday magic and just diffusing a few drops makes my home smell amazing.

In addition to holiday scents, I have started collecting ornaments with a beach theme to adorn our tree. I love to see the sea glass jellyfish, starfish with Santa hats and driftwood trees.
How do decorate for the holidays? Are you like me and find little ways to transform into a beachy home for the holidays?
