Creating a balanced life
Living a healthy and balanced life means learning to laugh away the daily stresses. Letting go of the things out of our control is a huge win and gets you closer to feeling balanced in your life. It’s a process, a daily practice in learning to leave the stresses right where they started. This practice is not natural for me and can be challenging but I’m hoping as more people talk about their stresses it will open up ways we can learn to laugh it off for balanced lifestyles.
Laugh it off
- The insanely long and stressful commute
- The office drama
- The long check-out line at a store
- The spilled milk…literally all over the carpet
- The slow moving pace of a fiercely independent child
Turn to laughter & choose joy
Grocery shopping is one of my least favorite things to do and some trips are just painful. A quick errand can turn me into a scattered mess. I sometimes feel anxious and overwhelmed in the grocery store trying to wrangle my kid while putting the right items in your shopping cart. My new goal is to deal with the moment but leave the stress in the store where it started. I used to carry that stress like it was a shopping bag right to my car and ultimately into my home. That unhealthy practice took me away from creating and living a balanced life.
“Don’t stress, laugh it off honey” was a constant phrase in our home and I have just started to connect and understand the importance of letting go. Mr. Man made it sound so easy and guess what, it became easy with practice!
Prioritize the stress
Pausing long enough to assess and prioritize the root of the stress is the key to letting it go.
Often times I was too consumed with the stress and anxious state it gave me to pull back and ask myself why I was letting it bother me after the initial experience. I really had no answer and it seemed quite silly to carry that stress with me. I was giving it too much weight, too much value and impact over me. Once I stepped back from the situation, paused and took a breath I realized I was letting a dark cloud follow me way after the initial experience.
Dropping the stresses and enjoying the moments!
Choosing to live more freely and in the moment has been a dramatic change for me. I’ve seen the positive impact in my daily life and aim to keep the momentum going forward.
I’m sharing about my daily annoyances because I know we can all learn and relate to one another. I’m working on coping skills for ditching the little stresses that can easily snowball if you let them. We all need that reminder that some things can just pop up out of our control and it’s best to just brush them off and carry on.
So how do you ditch the stress?
